The world’s newest passenger plane, the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, has made its first arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake on Tuesday (27th March 2023).
According to Mr. Wasantha Kudaliyanage, Managing Director of Aitken Spence Company, the Sri Lankan agent of Singapore Airlines, this is the first time that Singapore Airlines has flown the new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner to Katunayake Airport.
The aircraft is the latest and longest member of the Boeing 787 family and is designed to be more uplifting in every way. It is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 TEN and can carry 337 passengers, with 36 business class seats and 301 economy class seats.
Singapore Airlines, which has been providing continuous service for 53 years, is making a significant contribution to improving Sri Lanka’s tourism business as well as strengthening Sri Lanka’s import and export trade through the use of this latest aircraft. The Bandaranaike International Airport has taken measures to expand the special facilities of the runway and the apron to accommodate the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner.
Prior to this, Singapore Airlines used an A-359-900 Airbus aircraft for flights between Sri Lanka and Singapore. Mr. Wasantha Kudaliyanage said that Singapore Airlines has decided to deploy the Dreamliner Boeing 787-10, the most modern and largest passenger aircraft, as there is a need to carry more passengers and more cargo than the Airbus aircraft.
