The Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association marked its 106th anniversary yesterday in a special event at the President’s Office, attended by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Founded in 1917 by British teacher Miss Jenny Calverley, the association has grown into Sri Lanka’s largest voluntary organization for girls and young women.
In honor of this milestone, a flag day was organized, with Dr. Shanti Wilson, President of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association, Rukshani Aziz, Communications Commissioner, and Wasantha Sarojani Hemasinghe, leader of the Girl Guides division for differently-abled children, presenting the flag to President Wickremesinghe.
The event also featured a group of girl guides from the association, showcasing their commitment to empowering young women across the nation.
