Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Member of Parliament (MP) S. M. Chandrasena has suggested the possibility of an imminent cabinet reshuffle. During a media briefing on 15 March, Chandrasena confirmed that discussions concerning a cabinet reshuffle were underway.
Chandrasena indicated that the reshuffle is overdue and stated, “It is reported that the cabinet reshuffle will take place soon. It is actually something that needs to be done.” When asked about the expected timeframe for the reshuffle, he did not provide a specific date.
When questioned about the likelihood of being appointed to a ministerial portfolio himself, Chandrasena asserted that he is a deserving candidate but believes it is unlikely that he will be chosen. He further added, “I came first in the Anuradhapura district four times. I am one of the most senior candidates that came forward. This is actually a grave injustice being done to us. We are people who have done a lot for our country.”
Chandrasena’s remarks suggest that the potential cabinet reshuffle may have a significant impact on the SLPP’s leadership and its policies. The reshuffle may also result in some MPs receiving new portfolios while others may lose their positions in the cabinet. The upcoming reshuffle is expected to draw considerable attention from the media and the public, given its potential ramifications for the government’s future course of action.
