Sri Lanka’s Rubber Development Department announced that the country earned 327 billion rupees (about $900 million) from exporting rubber products in 2022. The Director General of the department, Madawa Kulasuriya, said this was a slight decrease from the previous year’s revenue of $1 billion.
However, the country plans to increase its rubber export revenue to $3 billion by 2025. The major markets for finished rubber products are the United States, Germany, and Japan, while Pakistan, Germany, and Japan are the major markets for natural rubber from Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is one of the leading exporters of natural rubber in the world, with around 70% of income from rubber exports coming from tires in 2021, according to official data.
