According to DIG Ajith Rohana, Sri Lanka Police arrested 433 additional persons on Tuesday (June 22) for failing to follow health procedures while in public.
The majority of the arrests, according to the police spokesman, were conducted in the Matale and Embilipitiya areas.
Since last year, a total of 42,347 arrests for infractions of quarantine requirements had been reported.
DIG Rohana went on to say that the arrestees would face legal prosecution under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance as well as the Penal Code.
Special operations to capture anyone who broke quarantine rules began on Monday (June 21), however, travel restrictions were lifted at 4 a.m. Travel restrictions across the island are likely to be reinstated at 10 p.m. today and will remain in effect until 4 a.m. on Friday (June 25).
