Only licensed liquor outlets will be permitted to remain open for limited hours beginning today (June 21), according to a statement issued by the Department of Excise on Sunday.
As a result, outlets with a Retail License (F.L 4) and a Beer, Ale, Stout, and Wine License for Retail Sale (F.L 22A) have been granted permission to operate once travel restrictions are lifted tomorrow morning.
However, selling liquor in licensed hotels, guest houses, rest stops, restaurants, and clubs will be prohibited.
Meanwhile, outlets with a Wholesale License (F.L 3) and a License for Distributing Manufacturers’ Wholesale Arrack/Beer/Foreign Liquor (A.M 6) will be permitted to operate on a limited basis.
The Excise Department’s spokesperson, Commissioner of Excise (Law Enforcement) Kapila Kumarasinghe, stressed that the outlet owners are expected to strictly adhere to health protocols during service hours.
