According to the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit, 2,882 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Saturday.
Positive cases identified Saturday include 2,827 people from the New Year COVID-19 cluster and 55 foreign arrivals who are currently quarantined.
According to the Epidemiology Unit report, as of 8 p.m. Saturday, a total of 180,593 COVID-19 cases had been reported, with 30,839 infected patients being treated in hospitals and 148,391 patients fully recovered and discharged.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,520,257 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 345,728 receiving the second dose.
COVID-19 deaths reported on Saturday
On Saturday, May 29, 2021, Sri Lanka confirmed 42 deaths as a result of COVID-19, bringing the total to 1405.
The Director-General of Health Services is the highest-ranking official in the healthcare system Saturday confirmed 42 deaths, six of which occurred on Saturday (May 29th) and 36 of which occurred between May 14th and May 28th as a result of Covid-19 virus infection.
In Sri Lanka, a total of 1,405 people have died as a result of the Covid-19 infection.
Panduwasnuwara Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Sunil Jayaweera, dies of Covid-19 infection
Panduwasnuwara Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman RPD Sunil Jayaweera, who was being treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Colombo for a Covid-19 infection, died this evening, according to health officials.

His condition had worsened and he was being treated at IDH Hospital. He was 60 years old and the father of three children when he died.
Sunil Jayaweera, RPD, represented the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

COVID vaccination to begin in Ratnapura and Kandy districts today
According to Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi, the COVID-19 vaccination program will begin today, May 30th, in the Ratnapura and Kandy districts.
Vaccination against Covid was also carried out successfully today in the districts of Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala. Vaccination will begin simultaneously in the Jaffna District, according to Army Commander General Shavendra Silva.
The vaccination program in the Kandy district will be implemented today.
The Russia-made Sputnik-V vaccine will be given there. A special discussion on vaccination was held under the patronage of Ministers Keheliya Rambukwella and Mahindananda Aluthgamage at the Kundasale National School premises yesterday (29).

The Commissioner of Prisons (Administration and Rehabilitation) and the Official Media Spokesman of the Department of Prisons, Chandana Ekanayake stated that an Intermediate Treatment Center has been set up at the Angunakolapelessa Prison premises with the approval of the Director-General of Health Services to treat prison officers infected with Covid-19.
An Intermediate Treatment Center for prison officers infected with Covid-19
Around fifty officers can be treated at the treatment center and six houses have been arranged to provide facilities to treat family members of the prison officers if they become infected with the Covid-19 virus.
Moreover, Mr. Ekanayake said that a doctor has been deployed by the Ministry of Health for treatment services at this intermediate treatment center and the rest of the required health staff has been deployed by the Prisons Department.
He further added that a COVID Control Committee has been initiated by the Department of Prisons and it will provide the necessary facilities to the officers infected with the virus so that the infected can call 0114677101 to enter the treatment center.
