Parliament News | Sri Lanka: Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has decided to summon Wanni District Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen and Ratnapura District Parliamentarian Premalal Jayasekara to Parliament sessions beginning tomorrow (18) if they agree to participate.
The Parliamentary Communications Department stated that the Director of the CID and the Commissioner General of Prisons have also been informed about this.
Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando has written to the Director of the CID to take steps, following the orders given by the Speaker, to bring MP Rishad Bathiudeen to Parliament, who is currently being detained by the CID for interrogations, if he agrees to attend the parliamentary sittings.
Similarly, the letter containing the Speaker’s order to bring MP Premalal Jayasekara, who is serving a death sentence, to Parliament if he wishes has also been sent to the Commissioner General of Prisons.
The letters sent by Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando on behalf of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to the Director of CID and Commissioner General of Prisons CID further stated that both Members of Parliament should be brought to Parliament only in accordance with the current health instructions imposed by the government.
