According to the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit, 2,289 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday.
There are 2,269 New Year COVID-19 cluster associates and 20 international arrivals among the positive cases discovered on Friday.
According to the Epidemiology Unit report at 10 pm Friday, a total of 138,085 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 27,054 infected patients are being treated at hospitals, while 110,108 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

According to the Epidemiology Unit report, so far total of 1,154,795 people have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 243,957 have received the second dose.
Covid infected pregnant mother dies; baby saved
A 28-year-old pregnant mother who was infected with the Covid virus in Kobeigane has died at the Kurunegala Hospital.
The woman was admitted to the Nikaweratiya Hospital for childbirth and was transferred to the Kurunegala Hospital as she was suffering from epilepsy.
Pregnant MotherA PCR test conducted at the Kurunegala Hospital has confirmed that she was infected with Covid. She was later admitted to a Special Treatment Unit for Covid infections.
Doctors said the pregnant woman had undergone a caesarean section as she was preparing for childbirth and that her epilepsy had continued to worsen.
The pregnant mother has died due to complications from Covid and doctors have been able to save her baby.
Chandana Kadangamuwa, Deputy Director of the Kurunegala Hospital said the newborn is currently in good health.
Sri Lanka reports 29 COVID-19 deaths Friday, toll rises to 921
The Director General of Health Services Friday confirmed 29 deaths that occurred from May 9th to May 14th due to Covid-19 virus infection. The total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 921 by now.
Among the deaths confirmed Thursday are 18 females and 11 males. In most cases the cause of death is mentioned as COVID-19 pneumonia.
