On Friday (May 14), Sri Lanka vaccinated 61,882 people with the Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine, according to State Minister of Production, Supply, and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana.
According to the Epidemiology Unit’s progress report on the COVID-19 immunization program, the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine has been given to 276,762 people since it was rolled out among Sri Lankan nationals on May 8.
After a consignment of 600,000 doses landed on the island on March 31, the Sinopharm vaccine was first administered to Chinese nationals living in Sri Lanka.
So far, 2,865 Chinese nationals have received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine, with another 2,435 receiving the second dose.
Meanwhile, the first dose of the Russia-made coronavirus vaccine has been administered to 14,673 people across the country.
On May 4, Sri Lanka received the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine, which included 15,000 doses.
