The first phase of the Ruwanpura Expressway, which connects Kahathuduwa and Ingiriya, began construction this morning.
The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa, presided over the inauguration ceremony.
The Premier attended the event through video technology, according to the Prime Minister’s Media Division.
The Ruwanpura Expressway is 24.3 kilometers long.
The Ruwanpura Expressway, which will begin at the Kahathuduwa Interchange and run through Ingiriya, Rathnapura, and Pelmadulla, will direct traffic through Ingiriya, Rathnapura, and Pelmadulla.
The project is 73.9 kilometers long and will be completed in three phases. The total cost of the project is expected to be around Rs. 54.7 billion.
