Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 Update: According to the National Operation Centre for COVID-19 Outbreak Prevention, Sri Lanka has reported 1,259 new coronavirus infections in just one day (NOCPCO).
Following the most recent surge, the country’s caseload has risen to 116,849.
Meanwhile, the number of people who have recovered has risen to 100,075 after 922 more people who have been infected with the virus were released from medical treatment earlier today.
Statistics show that 16,054 active cases are currently being treated at designated hospitals and treatment centers.
Also, The first-ever death of a pregnant woman in Sri Lanka occurred today, according to the Public Health Inspectors’ Union.
The woman, who was three months pregnant and expecting her first child, died while being transferred from Minuwangoda to Ragama Hospital, according to Public Health Inspectors’ Union Secretary Mahesh Balasuriya.
The victim was a 45-year-old Ragama resident who lived in Narangoda Paluwa (West). The death took place today, and the ashes were cremated right away.
After undergoing a PCR examination, the victim was admitted to the Minuwangoda Hospital with a serious cough.
The pandemic has also claimed the lives of 720 people in Sri Lanka.
