To prevent public meetings as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Commissioner General of the Department of Registration of Persons has decided not to open the department’s Head Office and all Provincial offices to the public until further notice.
All applicants who have been allocated numbers and times for obtaining National Identity Cards under the one-day service should hand over their applications to Grama Niladhari or the Identity Card Division of the respective Divisional Secretariat as soon as possible.
National identity cards for such applications will be prepared without getting levied the One-day service charges and sent by Registered Post to their respective applicants, a notice said.
Furthermore, a special provision has been made to acquire National Identity Cards for those who need them urgently for emergency and important purposes such as exams, interviews, or obtaining passports, and they may inform the Department of their urgent requirement by calling the numbers below.
