Today, the process of re-exporting a shipment of crude coconut oil that was found to contain the carcinogen aflatoxin began.
Commencing the process, containers of 105 metric tons of crude coconut oil imported by Katana Refineries (Pvt.) Ltd. were loaded onto a vessel this morning at the Colombo Port.
The Director General of Customs, Major General Vijitha Ravipriya said the vessel “Barbara” which was scheduled to carry the 06 containers of crude coconut oil back to Malaysia arrived at the SAGT Terminal of the Colombo Port on Monday morning (Apr. 12).
The stock of coconut oil imported by the private company Katana Refineries is valued at Rs. 30,754,500, said Customs Media Spokesman, Deputy Director of Customs (Legal Affairs) Sudaththa Silva.
