According to the Ministry of Health’s Epidemiology Unit, the second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVIDShield vaccine will be conducted on April 19th.
Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Chief Epidemiologist, stated at a media briefing that the Ministry has enough vaccine to administer the second dose.
According to Dr. Samaraweera, the World Health Organization has recommended that the second dose be given in 12 weeks.
He advised that if a person is unable to obtain the vaccine within 12 weeks, they should be inoculated as soon as possible after completing 12 weeks after receiving the first dose.
Dr. Samaraweera added that 600,000 doses of the Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine are expected to arrive on the island on March 31st.
He stated that the Ministry will identify appropriate groups to receive the vaccine.
