President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s policy framework of ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendor’ emphasizes to generate 70% of the country’s total electricity requirement from renewable energy sources by the year 2030. Accordingly, it is the policy of the Ministry of Power to reduce the use of diesel and fuel for power generation to 5% by 2025 and to limit it to 1% by 2030.
In this policy framework, the future of diesel and fuel power plants currently run by the public and private sectors will be specifically considered.
