According to the Jaffna Public Health Inspectors, 80 COVID-19 cases were reported in the Jaffna District alone yesterday (25) and 77 cases in the Jaffna Municipal Council area.
Due to the high number of patients reported from the Jaffna District in the last week, the District Covid Suppression Committee has agreed to close part of the Jaffna Municipal Council city limits, according to Public Health Inspectors.
Accordingly, two streets in the town of Jaffna have been placed under isolation from Friday (Mar. 26). Kasthuri Road, Power-House Road, and several sections along Kankasanthurai road up to Manipai junction are isolated.
The Jaffna fair ground, the Jaffna Tirunelveli fair ground and the trade outlets in Jaffna where infected people were found have been closed earlier.
The District Central Committee on COVID Suppression, which met last evening (25), has decided to temporarily close the Jaffna Central Bus Stand, Jaffna Fort Boundary and a section of the Jaffna Kankesanthurai Road, Public Health Inspectors said.
Several school children in Jaffna have also been diagnosed with the Covid virus and the children associated with them have been referred for PCR tests and have been asked to be quarantined, the Public Health Inspectors said.
