Living amidst the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic has not only instilled a new norm to our daily lives, but has altered societies and countries economically, resulting in drastic changes to business demands and sales patterns. Being mindful and having the necessary knowledge of these continuous alterations in marketing has now become a necessity not only for professional marketers, but also for entrepreneurs, business owners and other professionals wishing to enhance career opportunities or climb up the corporate ladder.

Marketing is not merely the awareness of business expertise or the art of promoting your business. It describes a series of skills that are useful in any profession. As a professional discipline, marketing plays a significant function in any business operation. It explores customer perceptions and acts as the main source of revenue and profit for a business. It also uses a variety of data to make smart and insightful business decisions while enhancing productivity.

While marketing lies at the heart of a successful business, the unpredictability of continuing a prolific business though branding and marketing during a global pandemic can also face many challenges. Hence, it is necessary to develop an understanding of marketing methods and patterns in order to be at the forefront of the never-ending competitive corporate world.

With the intention of reviving the Marketing field and boosting the economy of the country, the National body for Marketing in Sri Lanka, SLIM, offers the Professional Certificate in Marketing (PCM), a certified course in Marketing fundamentals. The Professional Certificate in Marketing is a 3 month programme which imparts knowledge on basic theories and strategies in Marketing and is a popularly sought-after qualification in the marketing sphere as the first step of learning in the field of Marketing.

President of SLIM, Mr. Roshan Fernando, highlighting the necessity to empower the professional marketers and entrepreneurs while reviving the Lankan economy amidst the COVID-19 pandemic said, “The COVID-19 crisis has redefined ethics and practices in businesses, altering marketing trends and platforms. It is, therefore, necessary to understand and cater to the changing patterns in the industry to keep the economy of our country afloat. SLIM is ready to lead the nation in these challenging times and guide the marketing personnel and entrepreneurs to rise to the occasion and contribute effectively to revive the economy of Sri Lanka”.

Vice President of SLIM, Mr. Nuwan Gamage, stressing the necessity of skills development in Marketing during challenging times said, “Due to drastic shifts in consumer behaviour, sales have been immensely affected in most sectors in the country. While some sellers find excessive demand for their products and services, others are staring at empty sales pipelines. It is therefore, necessary to find ways to shift the scale to your advantage to strategically enhance your business. We, at SLIM will arm you with this knowledge to boost your businesses and enhance your skills to add value to your professions.”

CEO/ ED of SLIM, Mr. Sanath Senanayake, emphasizing the significance of studying Marketing at SLIM stated, “SLIM PCM is the most recognized course for marketing in the country as well as in South Asia. SLIM PCM lays the foundation for further studies in marketing and acts as an entry qualification to the indigenous Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing and the shortest route to an MBA.”

As the pioneer of marketing in the Island, the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing has identified the necessity of enhancing the marketing philosophy among the aspiring marketers and entrepreneurs in the country. SLIM PCM is regularly updated to be on par with the rising global Marketing needs and the trends in the industry. At SLIM, we focus on delivering quality education that would not only help the students in their current situation, but also help them create a clear path for their future goals.
