The Committee of Experts on Minor Tremor recorded from Kandy recently confirmed that the incident could not be resolved as a result of the limestone quarrying.
On the 18th of November, the tremor took place and its effects were felt in the areas of Kandy, Aluthwatte, Ambakote, Digana, Mayilapitiya, Anurawatte and Haragama.
A six-member committee was subsequently named by Mr Anura Walpola, Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB), under the leadership of Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of the Environment.
The Committee emphasized the development of a long-term continuous monitoring program in its study, as many small tremors from these areas were recorded within a short period of time.
The committee also noted that there were no threats to the Victoria Dam from the recent minor tremor, Minister Amaraweera said.
