The United National Party (UNP) Party Management Committee yesterday (23) decided to nominate Party Chief and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for the post of Member of the National List of Parliament.
A letter signed by former party MPs and party seniors was also sent to the former Prime Minister requesting acceptance of the role of Member of the National List.
The party management committee met at the party headquarters Sirikotha this morning under the patronage of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
UNP National Organizer Navin Dissanayake and former Member of Parliament Arjuna Ranatunga had earlier proposed Ranil Wickremesinghe’s name for the post of National Member of Parliament and it was discussed at length at the Management Committee meeting.
All those present at the meeting did not oppose the idea and the committee members handed over a letter signed by all to Ranil Wickremesinghe asking him to accept the post of National List Member of Parliament.
The event was attended by senior members of the United National Party, including a number of former parliamentarians.
