Due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country, the Department of Registration of Persons has decided to suspend its public services, including a one-day service.
Accordingly, until further notice, its Head Office and all provincial offices will remain closed, the Commissioner General of the Department announced in a notice published today (23).
However, the issuance of National identity cards (NICs) will continue to be carried out in the Divisional Secretariats at departmental units, as further read in the notice.
Clients who have made previous appointments to receive the NICs and have not yet submitted their applications have been requested to send applications as soon as possible to the Grama Niladhari of their respective areas or to the Divisional Secretariats.
For these candidates, the one-day service fee will not be paid and their NICs will be delivered by post without delay, the Department added.
