Business News: South Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt) Ltd (SAGT), one of the first public private partnership container terminal in Sri Lanka launched its first phase of the project series ‘Wave of Kindness’ aimed at uplifting the wellbeing of the community coinciding with the company’s 20th Anniversary.
The first stage of this new initiative is the construction of a fully equipped Storage Facility for Drugs and Consumables aimed at improving the childcare services at Ward No: 03 of Lady Ridgeway Hospital(LRH)
LRH is a tertiary care hospital in Colombo with a bed strength of over 900 and is reportedly the largest children’s hospital in the world.
Speaking on behalf of LRH Dr. Devan Mendis Consultant Pediatrician expressed his gratitude to SAGT, acknowledging its good corporate citizenship, he said “It is very encouraging to know that an organization such as SAGT, with a commitment to be the best in the industry is passionate about its assistance to the local community. The SAGT LRH partnership goes back many years with SAGT‘s commitment in giving back to the community spanning over a decade now.
SAGT previously donated medical equipment in the form of Ventilators for the Cardiac Unit. Speaking on behalf of SAGT, Ted Muttiah Chief Commercial Officer said “Children are the future of the nation. Helping health professionals who do a terrific job in difficult circumstances, is a means to providing every Sri Lankan child the best opportunity at life. It is the right thing to do” SAGT is committed to further projects at Ward No: 03 of LRH.
The terminal is one of three operators in the Port of Colombo and continues to offer the international container shipping community a competitive best in class service. SAGT is a Board of Investment (BOI) flagship company consisting of four shareholders John Keells Holdings, Maersk/APM Terminals, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and Evergreen Marine Corporation.
