Local News: Under the current situation faced by the country all health sector units, security units and all officers at the regional level are working with utmost dedication and with the contribution of the state officials the country’s state mechanism is functioning most effectively, said the Director-General of the Government Information Department Nalaka Kaluwewa, addressing a media briefing at the Government Information Department (06).
All state officers are dedicated to ensuring that the normal lives of the people function without any hindrance, adding that despite 06 to 10th being declared work from the home week, many of these officers are working hard to ensure that all essential services are functional and that all essential goods are made available for the public. Accordingly, due to their commitment, the state machine is functioning at an optimum level without leaving any room for shortages for the people. Mr. Kaluwewa said.
By now the government has taken steps to ensure that all senior citizens, disabled persons and those with kidney ailments as well as farmers and fishery pensions have been paid through the post offices. The state officers are working tirelessly to enable the above persons to receive their payments and due to the prevailing Covid-19 danger, they are taking steps to deliver these pensions to each recipient individually at their homes.
Kaluwewa noted that this is a novel experience for the Sri Lankan state sector officials and it is the dedication of the highest government official to the lowest officer at the regional level that has enabled this mechanism to work where the recipients receive their payments to their homes without having to go out and obtain it from certain offices.
The provincial and district administration currently works round the clock and the provincial councils and local government institutions are operating with the highest commitment making a significant contribution to the efficient functioning of the state mechanism, the Director-General of the Government Information Department added.
