Local News Update: The National Harvesting and Cultivation Programme,’ Saubhagya,’ was launched yesterday Held at the Deewela paddy fields in Kegalle, the event, known as the’ Harvest Festival.’ Minister Chamal Rajapaksa has watched over it. One of the country’s major projects to build a fertile land is the cultivation of fallow paddy fields. Cultivation of fallow lands began ceremonially amid the Maha Sangha’s blessings. The project began with the cultivation of the Kegalle Deewela paddy field which had been in ruins for 15 years. In this regard participated the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Rural Development and the Department of Agrarian Services.
Minister Chamal Rajapaksa passed on to the modern generation the tradition of farming fallow lands. Afterwards all joined together to raise paddy. The minister started growing an bee tree that has been used since ancient times as a pesticide.
