Local News Update: The President ordered the airport authorities to ensure they did not cause any inconvenience or delays during their arrival and departure.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who paid an unannounced visit to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday (16) stressed that the security measures at the airport should be carried out in a manner that would not be inconvenient for the public.
During the visit, the President witnessed the operation of the international airport, paying close attention to the quality of their processes for clearing passengers.
The President instructed the Immigration and Emigration Director-General to take adequate measures to minimize the delays caused by deploying adequate officers in this regard.
The President has engaged with the passengers in cordial talks.
The President also noted that the Airport could improve its productivity by building two terminals for arrivals and departures. He also told the new terminal to accelerate the completion of its construction works.
President Rajapaksa instructed the Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services, Major General (Rtd) G. A. Chandrasiri to set up a separate terminal for taxis.
He also commended the Chairman and staff of the Airport for their service.
