Local News Update: Hospitality, generosity, sharing together, spending time with family and friends and helping those less fortunate are all amazing ways of celebrating the “Magique of Christmas”.
The Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit under the close guidance of its Chairperson, Mrs. Mayuri Prabhavi Dias did just that at the Eagles’ Lakeside Banquet and Convention Hall at Attidiya last night (19 December 2019) with the Air Force Carols 2019.
The Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit to the Ministry of Defence, Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne graced the event as the Chief Guest together with the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd). The Chief Guest was received by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Mayuri Prabhavi Dias and the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias at the entrance of the Eagles’ Lakeside. The event organized annually yet again saw Mr. Eshantha de Andrado as the conductor for the fourth consecutive year.
The Air Force Choir was made up of family members of serving members, airmen and airwomen from the Air Force. The event was hosted by Squadron Leaders Radhika Ranaweera and Lilangi Randeni.
This year’s Air Force Carols saw a packed crowd of over 730 invitees enjoying the tunes of the Air Force Choir. The Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonatilleke and Mrs Nelun Goonatilleke, the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva and Mrs. Sujeeva Nelson, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Members of the Air Force Board of Management with their families, former Commanders of the Air Force, former members of the Air Force Board of Management, former Chairpersons of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit and Defence Attaches from friendly nations were among the distinguished invitees this year.
Fifty children form the SOS village in Piliyandala were also included among the invited guests and were treated to an evening of carols, and even a special visit from Santa Claus.
