Local News Update: President Gotabaya Rajapaksa directed the Presidential Secretariat authorities to discontinue the use of plastic drinking water bottles during their discussions and meetings and instead to supply water in glasses.
The President’s Media Division (PMD) said issuing a statement today (17), supplying plastic drinking water bottles to the participants at various discussions and meetings held at the Presidential Secretariat has been in practice for a long time.
Under the orders of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, however, this activity will no longer continue.
“This will reduce the number of plastic bottles used in the environment to a large extent,” the PMD said.
The statement noted that the other state institutions are expected to take notice of this new practice and follow the President’s example. It also read that the President’s decision was commended by green admirers and environmentalists.
