International News from World: Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have announced the parent company of the online giant is stepping down from top roles. They will leave their respective roles as the chief executive and president of Alphabet, but they will remain on the board.
Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, will also become the CEO of Alphabet, a statement said. Alphabet was formed in 2015 as part of Google’s corporate restructuring, which was created in 1998 by Mr Page and Mr Brin in a California garage.
The parent company was meant to make “cleaner and more accountable” the activities of the tech giant as it expanded from internet search into other areas such as self-driving cars.
When it was formed, the pair moved from Google to Alphabet-saying they made the jump to focus on launching new initiatives.
