Development News from Sri Lanka: A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed recenty (October 13) for the first cable car project in Sri Lanka to be built in Nuwara Eliya. The agreement was signed under the patronage of Navin Dissanayake, Minister of Plantation Industries, at the premises of the Municipal Council of Nuwara Eliya.
Due to its high elevation and natural beauty, Nuwara Eliya was chosen to start the cable car project as a further step towards growing the tourist attraction in the region. Outdoor Engineering Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and its foreign partners Dopelme Cable Company have launched a project.
Building a cable car network on 21 towers that connect Nanu Oya train station, Nuwara Eliya race course and the Single Tree Mountain is the venture with an. 86 cars, which can hold 10 passengers each, are expected to operate. It is estimated that 43 cars will be built in the first phase.
