Local News from Sri Lanka: Cabinet approval has been given to the Cabinet Memorandum presented by President Maithripala Sirisena as Defense Minister to give lifetime wages to disabled war heroes. Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the granting of a wage equivalent to their last wage during their lifetime to all tri-force, police and special task force members.
The wage problem of the disabled war was carefully noted by the President and the appropriate Cabinet Paper was prepared and presented last week. The Cabinet approved the proposition with the Ministry of Finance’s amendments.
Although the President suggested to give the wage to the spouse or kids under the age of 26 after the death of the military officer, the Cabinet of Ministers allowed the Minister of Finance’s suggestion to grant only the officer the life-long wage.
