Local News from Sri Lanka: Headquarters of the Security Force-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) once again expanded a helping hand to needy students in Jaffna by distributing bicycles to students during a short ceremony on Saturday at the SFHQ-J.
The distribution was organized to coincide with the first visit to the SFHQ-J by Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva. The Army Commander graced the event as the principal guest at Jaffna Commander Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya’s request.
The bicycles will facilitate their daily travel to college as the kids live in distant areas.
The Army Commander said the people-friendly security forces are willing to help the community they serve in whatever way they can to elevate their living conditions and assist affected peninsula students as they are our future.
As part of the continuing tree-planting drive of the SFHQ-J in the peninsula, parents accompanying the learners got jak, coconut and breadfruit saplings. Through goodwill and generosity, expanded by local and expatriate well-wishers, the SFHQ-J has been able to distribute over 400 bicycles to deserving learners in the Jaffna peninsula over the past year.
The Commander of the Army also interacted with a civilian community chapter. During the short allocation ceremony, several senior officers were present.
