Local News: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (20) urged the public to take well-thought decisions in the midst of the Covid-19 global pandemic while ensuring that the government has taken the necessary measures to deal with any crisis situation.
The Premier also called on the public, in a special speech, to listen closely to medical and government advice in order to rid the nation of the deadly virus as soon as possible.
“We did not even have to enforce an island-wide curfew during the age of the world’s worst civil war. Yet still, because of the incompetence and irresponsibility of a few men, we must take these activities, “he added.
“We took this decision to ensure your and your children’s health,” the Premier said while apologizing for any sort of inconvenience caused by the prevailing situation.
He ensured the government would be able to provide anything the general public needed to continue their everyday lives. “Medicine, food and fuel have been stockpiled for months.” Also, the Premier encouraged the general public not to worry too much.
The government does not conceal anything from the people, stressed PM Rajapaksa, adding that knowledge about the diseases and their existence is not to be hidden from the general public.
