Local News: The maximum permissible transit time for passengers to fly through Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) was limited to no more than six hours, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said today.
Director of CAA ‘S Air Transport Regulation Rayhan Wanniappa said the CAA took the decision to reduce the risks associated with COVID infection. Passengers must have a verified onward link solely out of BIA.
“In addition to transit passengers or visiting visitors, aircraft may depart with passengers originating in Colombo. “Freighters and humanitarian flights to BIA are also permitted to land over technical problems, emergency diversions,” he said. He said the inbound flights will also be permitted to land to take passengers away. “Airlines are specifically advised to follow the instructions set out above,” he said.
