Railways Department says no passengers to permit travel without train tickets

Local News: There has been no decision to allow passengers to travel in trains without purchasing tickets, the Railways Department says. M.J.D. Fernando, General Manager of Railways, said steps should be taken to rectify the unilateral decisions taken by some people at this crucial juncture, who have failed to recognize national duty.

Fernando also noted that the government declared a special three-day holiday was not applicable to the railway service and that appropriate staff members were mobilized to sustain critical services.

Meanwhile, a number of measures have been introduced by the Railway Department to control the spread of Covid-19 across the country including disinfecting trains and railway stations.
