Showers expected across the island

Weather Forecast for today: Showers will sometimes occur in the provinces of the East and Uva, and in the districts of Matale, Nuwara-Eliya and Hambanthota. Several shower spells will occur in district Polonnaruwa.

Showers or thundershowers will take place after 2 p.m. at several places in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces, and in districts of Galle and Matara. In some places in the province of Uva and in districts of Hambanthota, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya, pretty heavy falls above 50 mm can be expected.

In the north-central and north-western provinces, and in the districts of Hambanthota and Monaragala, wind speeds can sometimes rise to 40 km / h.

It is kindly requested that the general public take adequate measures to minimize damage during thundershowers caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning.

Marine Weather: Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Batticaloa to Galle via Hambanthota. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea area extending from Colombo to Galle during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be North-easterly and speed will be (30-40) kmph in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea area extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota and in the sea area extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam.

Wind speed can increase up to (45-50) kmph at times in the other sea areas around the island.

The sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota and the sea areas extending from Mannar to Colombo via Puttalam can be rough at times. Other sea areas can be fairly rough at times.
