Business News from Sri Lanka: LOT Polish Airlines announced to boost the tourism sector in Sri Lanka that it will operate direct flights from Warsaw to Colombo from November 3.
LOT will fly seasonally from Warsaw to Sri Lanka with three weekly flights on its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners fleet between November 3 and March 28.
Colombo will be LOT’s 6th long-haul Asian destination for LOT and Heyleys will be the GSA for the airline. Annually, more than 1.8 million passengers travel between Europe and Colombo.Accordingly, the first ever LOT Polish Airlines (LOT) direct flight from Warsaw to Colombo touched down at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Sunday (03).
Speaking at a press briefing held in Colombo, yesterday, Chief Commercial Officer, Member of the Board of LOT Polish Airlines, Michal Fijol said the economic activities between two countries will grow significantly with the commencement of direct flights between Warsaw and Colombo.
“We decided to start a regular connection to Sri Lanka due to the very high tourist potential of this direction. Annually, more than 1.8 million passengers travel between Europe and Colombo.” he said.
Filo said further that LOT Airlines intends to bring down close to 10,000-15,000 polish travelers to Sri Lanka during the peak winter tourist season.
Moreover , he noted that direct air operations between two countries will be continued if LOT is satisfied with the performance of the operations, introduced during the given time period.

Pandithage said further, “We’re proud to be working in partnership with the LOT Polish Airlines. Furthermore, apart from the Srilankan Airlines, LOT will be the only airline that comes nonstop from Europe to Colombo. This is also a fantastic opportunity for travelers in Europe and North America to visit Sri Lanka.”
Pandithage said further that Sri Lanka tourism industry has bounced back to normalcy immediately after recent unfortunate events that hampered the growth potential of the industry to a great extent.
