Showery condition is forecast to decrease temporarily today

Weather Forecast for today: The island’s showery condition is forecast to decrease temporarily to some degree today. However, afternoon thundershowers can be held in a few places in the provinces of Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern and in the district of Kaluthara.

Showers or thundershowers can also occur in the morning at a few places in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Galle.

Misty conditions can be predicted in the morning at some places in the provinces of Central, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva.

It is kindly requested that the general public take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused during thundershowers by temporarily located strong winds and lightning.
Marine weather: The low-pressure zone in the eastern-central and neighboring southeastern Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea area has formed into a depression and is now near latitude13.3N, longitude88.9E.

It is highly likely to move west-north, concentrating in the next 12 hours into a deep depression. It is also very likely to further intensify into a cyclonic storm and move north-west over the next 48 hours.

In the above sea areas it is possible to expect heavy showers / thundershowers, strong winds and rough seas. Naval and fishing communities (especially multi-day vessels) are asked to be vigilant in this regard.

Showers or thundershowers will take place across Hambantota at several locations in the sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil.

In the sea area from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar, winds will be west to south-west and speed will be (15-30) kmph. Winds are going to be northwest to north and speed is going to be (30-40) kmph in the other areas of the island.

During thundershowers it is possible to predict temporarily heavy rainy winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and very rough seas.
