45,000 polling booths for upcoming Presidential Polls

Local News from Sri Lanka: On November 16.EC Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has confirmed these facts, said W.M. The Elections Commission (EC) will set up 45,000 polling booths for voters across the country for the 2019 presidential election. Balasooriya, Kurunegala Senior Education Director, speaking at yesterday’s meeting of school leaders and teachers to serve on election duty in the districts of Kurunegala and Puttalam.

Only 35,000 polling booths were established during previous elections. This year, the number of polling centers would be 12,845. The Elections Commission has decided to increase the number of polling booths as this time the ballot paper is very long since the presidential election is contested by 35 candidates.

This ballot paper’s length is 26 inches. This time, one polling booth will be set up for every 400 voters; one polling booth has been set up for every 800 voters on previous occasions.
