Local News from Sri Lanka: Seventeen applicants have so far positioned their deposits for the 2019 Presidential Election, the Election Commission states. Nine out of this total are from acknowledged political parties, while eight are autonomous candidates or unrecognized political parties, Commission President Mahinda Deshapriya said.
Acceptance of deposits for the upcoming presidential election finishes on October 6 at 12 noon. The Elections Commission will start accepting nominations for the presidential poll from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on October 7 and objections for nominations may be filed on the same day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Meanwhile, the deadline for submitting requests for the Presidential Election 2019 postal vote, which was scheduled to end last Wednesday (30), has been expanded until midnight on October 04. Due to the prevailing inclement climate and continuing trade union activities, this choice was taken.
