Cricket in line to be included in 2028 Olympics

Sports News from Sri Lanka: MCC World Cricket Committee Chairman Mike Gatting said that cricket could be part of the 2028 Olympics as the ICC is working to get the sport included in the Los Angeles Games list.

Recently coming under the umbrella of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), an affiliate of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the BCCI could be crucial to the final result as it is compulsory for the first body to oversee the doping policy of all sporting federations.

Former England batsman Gatting said new ICC chief executive Manu Sawhney told the Cricket Committee of the MCC that strides had been made to guarantee the inclusion of the game in the world’s largest sporting event.

“We talked to Manu Sawhney, the chief executive of the ICC, and he was very optimistic that we could get cricket in the 2028 Olympics,” ESPNcricinfo cited Gatting as stating.

“That’s what they’re working on right now and it’s going to be a huge bonus for cricket globally, it’s going to be great.” Earlier this year, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar also battled for cricket to be included in the Olympics.

Gatting said, “It’s two weeks, it’s a nice thing about it, it’s not a month, so it’s one of those events where a two-week schedule should be okay once every four years once you do the first.
