Local News from Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka, under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, will host the next Asia-Pacific Conference of the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC-AP 2019) from 10 to 13 September.
200 foreign participants and an equal amount of local experts and students are expected to be drawn to the event. ATBC-AP 2019 is a gathering of experts and conservation practitioners to take stock of the present state and conservation of tropical biology, particularly in the Asian region.
This conference is a main event for Sri Lanka as the platform provides an chance for local respondents from academics to research organizations, civil society organizations, as well as the private sector, to engage with international researchers to gain more knowledge about using ecosystem services for local development policies.
The event would consist of five plenary meetings and 32 technical workshops covering various aspects of biodiversity conservation in the Asia Pacific region.
The conference’s final statement would provide a clear direction for local policymakers on how to achieve sustainable development with a focus on the conservation of biodiversity. The event would be the platform for the formation of the Ecological Society of Sri Lanka. This society would work with a network of international ecological associations to provide scientific information and support future restoration and conservation efforts with the participation of all stakeholders in the country.
The Tropical Biology and Conservation Association was formed in 1963 as a science professional society. It is made up of learners, scientists, teachers, and conservation professionals involved in tropical science, conservation, growth, and environmental policy issues.
