Audi is launching its smallest crossover to date, introducing the A1 City carver moniker and describing it as the “most progressive” model in the A1 lineup that feels at home “in the city, on country roads and highways, and even on somewhat rough terrain.”
Based on the A1 Sport back, Ingolstadt’s new high-riding hatchback is 4.04 meters long (13.3 feet) and features a 35 mm raised suspension. Larger wheels than conventional variants, beginning at 16 inches and reaching 18 inches, add to the suspension height a few more millimeters.
Audi does not disclose information about its fresh high-riding offering’s powertrains. Sharing its mechanical underpinnings with the A1 Sportback, however, implies that a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 200 horsepower (147 kilowatts) will most probably power the new A4 CityCarver.
Starting in August this year, the German automaker will kick off sales of the new A1 Citycarver in Europe with first deliveries planned for fall 2019. Customers from the Old Continent can purchase an Edition One model with unique visual touches at the market launch. Information on pricing is not yet accessible.
