Representatives from the Recruiting Agents Association (RAA) in Jordan met with Ambassador J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara at the Embassy on March 14, 2023, to discuss the promotion of employment opportunities for Sri Lankans.
Discussion on Collaboration for Sustainable Labor Migration Management
During the joint discussion, the representatives expressed their interest in collaborating with Sri Lanka to expand job opportunities for Sri Lankans in the domestic sector. They emphasized the importance of policy reforms in line with other labor sending countries. The discussion also focused on potential areas of collaboration between the two countries, including sharing policies, best practices, and mechanisms for sustainable labor migration management.
The representatives conveyed their willingness to visit Sri Lanka to further discuss employment promotion and address any problems encountered by them.
Ambassador Wijegunasekara acknowledged the significant position of Sri Lanka as a labor sending country and the valuable contribution of migrant workers to the country’s economic recovery and development. She stressed the need for stronger policies and actions to protect and advance the welfare and rights of migrant workers. The Ambassador also highlighted the government’s policies for promoting semi-skilled and skilled recruitment in foreign countries, given the high vulnerability of domestic workers.
The discussion was attended by Third Secretary (E&W) P.A. Rupasinghe and the staff of the Mission.
