On account of the 75th National Independence Anniversary Day (February 4), His Excellency, the President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the recommendation of the Ministry of Defence and the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage has promoted a total of 208 Officers of the Sri Lanka Army (Regular and Volunteer Force) and a record 7790 Other Ranks of the Army (Regular Force and Volunteer Force and Extra Regimental Employment Basis) to their respective next rank.
- Accordingly, 8 Brigadiers to the rank of Major General, 17 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier, 10 Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel, 10 Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, 78 Captains to the rank of Major, 12 Lieutenants to the rank of Captain, 9 Lieutenants (QM) to the rank of Captain (QM) and 64 Second Lieutenants to the rank of Lieutenant (Regular Force & Volunteer Force) have been thus promoted in the Officers’ category.
- In the category of Other Ranks, a total of 181 Warrant Officers-II to the rank of Warrant Officer-I, 473 Staff Sergeants to the rank of Warrant Officer-II, 679 Sergeants to the rank of Staff Sergeant, 1697 Corporals to the rank of Sergeant, 1740 Lance Corporals to the rank of Corporal and 3020 Privates to the rank of Lance Corporal (Regular Force, Volunteer Force and Extra Regimental Employment basis) have also been promoted.

Just promoted 8 Major Generals of the Army Friday afternoon (February 3) who called on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage received their symbols of authority and greetings from the Army Chief at the Commander’s Office to coincide with the 75th National Independence Day (4 February).

- Major General L.S Balachnadra RSP, Chief Executive Officer of Nelum Pokuna Theater, Major General W Chandresiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division, Major General D.M.P.P Dasanayake, Director, Directorate of Quality Assurance and Inspection, Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, Commander of Forward Maintenance Area (North), Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding of 66 Infantry Division, Major General G.W.A Senevirathne USP psc, Director, Directorate of Research Concept and Doctrine, Major General I.A.N.B Perera RWP USP ndu psc, Commandant of Sri Lanka Military Academy and Major General P.P.A Perera Hdmc psc, Director, Directorate of Overseas Operation received their symbols of authority from the Army Chief while assuring to ensure more committed and dedicated roles and perform better in the years to come in the best interest of the country’s security and prosperity.
After cordial interactions and greetings, the Commander of the Army awarded General’s sword to the new two-star Generals to signify their new authority. Those Officers thanking the Commander of the Army for his warm wishes added memories to the occasion by posing for several photos. – Sri Lanka Army
