The Election Commission has announced that the Local Government (LG) Elections will take place on March 09, 2023, from 7.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. This notification has now been gazetted.
District Returning Officers (DROs) have been assigned to each district, in order to carry out the election as per Sub-section 38 (1)(c) of the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance.
The Chairman of the Election Commission stated that the documents required for the LG Election process were sent to the Government Printer to be gazetted.
The Election Commission clarified that the Gazette notification was not necessary for the LG election process. The documents will be issued by the District Returning Officers within the next few days.
In total, 58 registered political parties and 329 independent groups have presented more than 80,700 candidates to contest in 339 local government bodies.
