A Japanese firm has entered into an agreement with the government of Sri Lanka to undertake the cleaning and beautification of the Colombo Beira Lake, free of cost.
The agreement was reached following a meeting between the President’s Senior Advisor on Climate Change, Ruwan Wijewardena, and representatives from the company, held at the President’s Secretariat.
The work is expected to be completed within six months, with a budget of three million dollars, to be granted by the company to the country.
This initiative was initiated by Ven. Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thera, the Gangarama Viharadhikari, who requested the President Ranil Wickramasinghe to clean the polluted and smelly Beira Lake.
The project is set to commence in February, once the necessary agreements are signed.
