The Cabinet has given its approval for the purchase of textbooks for school students for the 2023 school term, with 45% allocated to the State Printing Corporation and 55% to private printing companies.
Contracts have been signed with 22 private printing companies and the State Printing Corporation has received the first batch of paper funded by India.
In order to speed up the process of textbooks being printed, the Minister of Education successfully requested the Cabinet of Ministers to grant an advance of 20% of the contracted amount to the private printing houses.
Half of this advance has already been given to the printing presses as per provision of 2022.
The Ministry of Education is still awaiting the rest of the advance from the Treasury and the Minister of Education has intervened in order to facilitate the process.
Once the bills of the printing presses are received, the money will be provided in the upcoming week.
The Ministry of Education is taking all necessary measures to ensure textbooks are provided to school students as quickly as possible.
