The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Trade have worked together to create a price formula for determining the cost of eggs and chicken meat.
This formulae was made by a joint committee of the secretaries from both ministries. Dr. Hemali Kothalawala, the Director General of the Animal Production and Health Department, stated that until now the Department of Animal Production and Health was responsible for calculating prices.
However, after the decision made by the Parliamentary Committee of Public Enterprises (COPE) the price formula created by both ministries along with the Consumer Affairs Authority will be sent to the COPE Committee.
She also added that, with the decrease in the price of animal feed, the cost of eggs and chicken is predicted to decrease further in the future.
