According to the Sri Lanka Police, 253 people have been arrested in the last 24 hours for violating quarantine regulations, such as wearing face masks and maintaining social distance.
So far, 54,612 people have been arrested in connection with the same crimes.
In the meantime, 479 people and 361 vehicles have been turned away at provincial border crossing points borders.
Except for those engaged in essential services and employees of certain sectors, crossing provincial borders has been prohibited.
When attending a close relative’s funeral or seeking medical treatment, crossing provincial borders will be permitted.
DIG Ajith Rohana, police spokesperson, said strict monitoring would continue at provincial borders while special island-wide operations would be conducted to identify and arrest those who violate quarantine regulations.
