Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Turkey M. Rizvi Hassen visited the Black Sea Region of Turkey to explore areas and sectors that Sri Lanka could establish relations and to enhance trade, investment, and tourism links. During the visit, Ambassador Hassen met the President and members of Trade Chamber of Commerce of Sinop Province, prominent business personalities in the Province of Ordu, Regional and District Governors in Ordu, Sinop, Fatsa, Erflek, and the Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Ordu.
The President of the Chamber of Commerce of Sinop Salim Akbas and the Executive Board of the Chamber identified sectors that Sri Lankan exporters could establish links with Turkish prospective buyers. The members of the board showed their interest in Coco-peat & Coconut related products, Solid & Pneumatic tyres, Spices products exports and to establish agricultural & animal husbandry machinery plant in Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Sinop Chamber of Commerce assured to organize a virtual B2B meeting session between the members of the trade chamber and Sri Lankan exporters and President Akbas expressed his willingness to meet with the Sri Lankan trade chambers through the virtual session.
Ambassador Hassen met the Mayor of Metropolitan City of Ordu Dr. Mehmet Hilmi Güler (former Cabinet Minister of Energy) and exchanged views on enhancing people-to-people contacts, trade, and tourism between Sri Lanka and Turkey. Mayor Dr. Güler assured his assistance and positive consideration to establish links with Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Hassen also met the Governor of Metropolitan City of Ordu Tuncay Sonel and the Governor extended an invitation to Sri Lanka to identify a suitable province to join with their ‘Sister City programme. Ambassador Hassen also visited District Governor of Fatsa, Ordu Omer Lutfi Yaran during his visit to the Black Sea Region.
Sinop is a region highly dependant on agriculture, agricultural machinery production, fisheries, aquatic resources industry, and tourism especially eco-tourism. Ordu Region has four industrial zones with high-quality infrastructure facilities. There are large-scale manufacturing plants, hazelnut process factories, and agricultural machinery production plants established in the industrial zones. Tourism is also a major contributor to its economy.
